Harpman

Atticus gives Fuzzy the blues:

Atticus' first day of school

The little man began pre-school at the Montessori School, Clara's alma mater. Here he is testing out the new equipment. Mini-car? Check. Bucket and shovel? Check.

He's a slide man

Atticus digs him some playground action. Donning his striped engineer cap, he tackled the Ramsey Park playground Labor Day weekend. I had to deflect him from the 15-foot tall slide a few times, but other than that we had a delightful time. Here's a video of the fun:

1st graders discuss politics

on the walk home from school yesterday, clara and her friend had a political discussion, prompted by a Hillary sign in a neighbor's yard.

CLARA: OH NO! THEY'RE FOR HILLARY! Don't they know she isn't winning!?

GABRIELLA: Who are you for?

CLARA: I'm for Obama. Who are you for?

GABRIELLA: I'm for Hillary. My parents want Obama to win but I like Hillary. I watched the debate but I couldn't talk because my parents told me to be quiet.

CLARA: Well, Hillary is feeling very frus-ter-ated right now because Obama is winning and she is losing. The other day, she said, "SHAME ON YOU, BARACK OBAMA!" for no reason. It wasn't very nice of her but she is frus-ter-ated!

GABRIELLA: Oh. You're right. That wasn't very nice.

clara attempted to get us all up to see what santa brought her at FOUR FIFTEEN A.M. i heard rodney sweetly say, "no, it's a little too early. try to go back to sleep" and thankfully, she did. we made it to 6 and successfully tore through the goods by 8.

christmas: the tree

we made our annual trek to a family farm in elgin, texas to chop down our christmas tree. this year, we waited until a week before christmas, for fear that the tree would not fare well in the house of pickle. amazingly enough, atticus didn't destroy a single ornament and the tree remained upright through the holidays.

we chose an extremely cold and windy day to get our tree. atticus didn't know what to make of the cold air whipping him around, so he was happy to stay bundled up close to mom.
